Sofia Vergara’s ex-husband Joe Manganiello recently opened up about the couple’s divorce. According to him, Vergara’s claim that they broke up over a disagreement about having children together is “not true.”
Joe Manganiello Talks About Divorce from Sofia Vergara
Manganiello filed for divorce from Vergara last July after seven years of marriage, and they reached a settlement earlier this year. In a January interview with El País, Vergara claimed that the split was due to Manganiello wanting children, and her not wanting to be an “old mom.”
In a new interview with Men’s Journal, Manganiello denied that this was the reason for their divorce, saying it was “simply not true.” He explained that he and Vergara “did try to have a family for the first year and a half.”
“And we had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month we dated,” Manganiello said. “I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.’ But that wasn’t the case with her. And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t.”

Why Did the Couple Split Up?
Although Manganiello admitted that he did want to have kids, he stressed that this “wasn’t inevitably why everything ended” between him and Vergara, adding, “It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens.”
While Manganiello doesn’t have children, Vergara has an adult son named Manolo from a previous relationship. Manganiello expressed disappointment that the public narrative about their split made it seem like he viewed not having kids as a dealbreaker.
“To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone’? That’s never who I was,” Manganiello told Men’s Journal.
Since their split, both actors have moved on to new relationships. Manganiello is dating actress Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara has been linked to orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman.
