McKenna shared that she was adopted, and she later found out that her birth mother (who passed away) was a musician. She ended up contacting her birth family, learning that they’re all singers. McKenna shared that they were supposed to meet three weeks after her audition.

What McKenna didn’t know was that her birth family was waiting to surprise her outside the audition room. They talked to host Ryan Seacrest while McKenna sat at the piano to perform “There Was Jesus” by Zach Williams and Dolly Parton.

McKenna delivered a beautiful performance that earned applause from the judges. Katy Perry praised her voice, describing it as “really signature and raspy and interesting.” Luke Bryan said she was “very in control of what you’re doing.”

The judges asked McKenna to invite her family in for the final judgment. She was shocked and emotional to find her birth family waiting on the other side of the door. The sweet moment made Perry cry.
